Touch

Its amazing what a little touch can do for you. I love it when I get home from work and Scott is around the house and I go over and give him a kiss and hug after a long day. I that moment when he is giving me a hug is pure bliss. Why? Well, I am engulfed by his loving arms and I feel so protected and its like the world isn't there and its just the two of us.

Tonight I can not sleep and I have been laying in bed for the last hour staring at the ceiling thinking about everything that I need to get done and events that occurred today. As I am lying there my husband, who is pretty much passed out (oh how I love him!), rolls over and grabs my hand. Like the hug, this little touch from someone you love is so comforting. It isn't like it is a big dramatic gesture but it is something that lets your loved one know you are there.

Obviously the touch didn't help me sleep (or this post wouldn't be happening) but it helped. Tonight I found out that a Kappa sister was killed this morning in a car accident. She was 2 years younger than I am and I don't recall ever meeting her but it is a true 'awakening' (if you want to call it that) that life is short and you don't know how long you have with your loved ones. All of those things running through my head really doesn't mean a lot in the grand scheme of things so I need to let them go and realize what I have here in front of me.

So the next time you see your loved ones give them a huge hug. You never know what the touch of your hug, kiss, holding their hand, or whatever your choice of touch is--it will help. And to all of you, thank you for being in my life. You have truly touched it!

2010 in Review

...to 2010! It was a great year but in a way I'm happy to see it go. 2011 in a recap:

January
There wasn't a whole lot of 'action' this month because I can't remember much of it. Scott & I did talk about getting engaged (!) but there wasn't a whole lot other than a 5 minute discussion.

February
Scott & I celebrated our first Valentines together and had a great time. I was lucky enough to have Shauna come out and visit for a long weekend. We went skiing and just hung out.

March
I went on a vacation with the Hortin family and Scott proposed to me the first day of the trip in San Diego.

April
This was a busy month planning the wedding. We got the location, dress, invite lists, florist, and who knows what else. Ashley & I went to Wendover, NV for a Emerson Drive concert (& belated Birthday celebration). It was a good time of just relaxing with one your best friends!

May
Was another month full of planning for the wedding. Scott & I did help Gram re-do her kitchen by painting and tiling for her. We didn't do anything exciting for Memorial Day but we did enjoy some time at a BBQ at my parents.

June
This was a very quiet month. We celebrated my Birthday with a stay-cation where we stayed downtown and had a nice weekend with the two of us.

July
Scott & I traveled to Portland, WA to go to a friend from college wedding. It was great seeing friends from college (some I hadn't seen for 6 years) and enjoying the time away. Over the 24th of July weekend Scott & I went to the cabin for a long holiday weekend. We had both families come together for the weekend and a great time with everyone there. This month there was very little wedding planning other than getting our engagement pictures taken.

August
I helped Delta Eta (Kappa chapter at the University of Utah) with recruitment and had a very successful time. The week before recruitment started I received a phone call from one of the Fraternity council members asking me if I would be willing to serve the next year as a PDC for Eta-East. I accepted (and they officially approved me) and I started overseeing University of Wyoming, University of Colorado, Denver, and Colorado College. Right before recruitment we distributed our wedding invites.

September
This was another busy month. Scott went hunting 2 weeks before the wedding so it was a little hectic. We also decided to renovate his kitchen the last weekend in August. We spent the entire month, up to the day he left for hunting, to finish the physical setup. We also spent our time attending showers and getting the last things situated in getting things done for next month.

October
This was our "big" month. We started it out by duck hunting opening the weekend before the wedding. We then got into the crazy wedding things. Family and friends few in and we had our bachelor/bachelorette party's, celebrated Scott's Birthday at the rehearsal dinner, and then got married. We then went off the grid for a week and visited Cancun for a week of relaxation. Work was very busy for me in having a scholarship banquet, building dedication, and alumni event all in 5 days.

November
We spent most of this month finishing the kitchen's back splash and getting my clothing moved into Scott's place (we are still working on moving the rest of my stuff in). We celebrated our 2nd Thanksgiving together and had more breathing room in the pants at the end of the day.

December
We had a good month and not too crazy for the first two weeks. I went to the Las Vegas Bowl with my parents and sister (Scott couldn't get work off). We got back and then started the Christmas chaos with all of our parties over the next 3 days. This year we spread things out a little more and enjoyed our family's company a little more than the previous year. And finally, over new years we went to St. George for the 2nd annual Pannier party. We went 4 wheeling, hung out, and went to Mesquite, NV for a great dinner/gambling.

So as we say farewell to 2010--it was a great year but I look forward to 2011 and what you bring!!
